Killeen City Manager Ron Olson and Fort Hood Garrison Commander Colonel Henry Perry executed an intergovernmental support agreement at a signing ceremony at Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport today. The agreement contracts the City’s aviation staff to perform preventative maintenance on the runways, taxiways and aprons of the fort’s airfield.
The 2013 National Defense Authorization Act established the intergovernmental support agreement program to allow military installations to contract with local governments for performance of necessary services. The Killeen-Fort Hood agreement will reduce the expense to the Department of Defense for these airfield needs and provide about $50,000 of annual revenue to the City’s aviation fund.
City Council approved entering the agreement at the December 18 meeting recognizing the value and potential in the public-public partnership.
Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport opened in 2004 at Gray Army Airfield. It is a joint-use facility where both commercial and military air operations are conducted using the same runway.
