KILLEEN, Texas (July 21, 2022) – The City of Killeen will host a Community Meeting on Monday, July 25, from 5p.m. - 7p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center in the Special Events Ballroom. Citizens are asked to attend this to learn about the full draft of the final Comprehensive Plan and join in the discussion, providing feedback.
This plan was created, based off of community feedback on priorities for the city, and outlines a vision for Killeen for the next 10-20 years. The City of Killeen worked with consultant, Verdunity, to draft the Comprehensive Plan that has been more than a year in the making. Citizens and stakeholders will be able to view the draft plan at www.KilleenTexas.gov/OurKilleen.
Killeen’s Comprehensive Plan is a blueprint for the future of the city and kicked off in March 2021 with a collection of surveys, interactive maps, “walkshops,” and public forums that have engaged the public over the last year.
The document is more than 150 pages, although the focus for our citizens and community partners is the Land Use and Growth Management chapter (pages 61-84), the draft Future Land Use Map (page 85) and the Growth Sector Map (page 89). These maps are intended to guide new development in Killeen over the next 20 years.
A breakdown of the survey results, portraying what citizens said matter most to them are on pages 34-41.
This is a culmination of the surveys and focus groups from the past year regarding building healthy and equitable neighborhoods, creating a more vibrant and resilient economy, identifying areas where reinvestment or new development is needed and determining what growth can be supported and afforded.
There will be a Q&A session with the consultant at the meeting, along with time for citizens to have open discussions with City staff.
Previous workshops, discussions, presentations and promotional videos can be found on our City of Killeen website at www.KilleenTexas.gov/OurKilleen.
