Katlin Kizito will begin on Aug. 15

KILLEEN, Texas (Aug. 12, 2022) – The City of Killeen has hired its first-ever Downtown Revitalization Director. Katlin Kizito will begin on Monday, Aug. 15.

Kizito will help revitalize, revamp and restore economic development programs in downtown and north Killeen; plan large-scale events, plan family-fun, cultural and business networking events, develop and nurture community partnerships collaborations and create a sense of overall excitement about all that Historic Downtown has to offer.

This position called for someone with expertise in transforming and revitalizing historic downtowns and looking for investment areas; someone who knows how to build collaborative programs and partnerships with small businesses, places and people; and someone who has a passion for creating well-designed public spaces and community development strategies that will positively transform the area.

Kizito has dedicated her career to placemaking and community development. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Upstate and Liberty University.

Kizito was most recently the Main Street Director and Public Relations Manager for the City of Fountain Inn, S.C., Neighborhood Services Coordinator for the City of Greer, S.C. and Assistant to the County Administrator for Spartanburg County in South Carolina.

As apart of the City of Killeen’s Comprehensive Plan, citizens have expressed the need for more focus on north Killeen and downtown development. City staff and City Council have worked together to bring residents more than half a dozen, monthly downtown events and activities since December 2021, which brings more exposure to downtown merchants and local businesses who participate as vendors. The events are one of many steps in the process to revamp the area.
