Applications due by Aug. 11
KILLEEN, Texas (July 25, 2023) – The City of Killeen has more 22 boards, commissions and committees and the new online application process has begun for citizens to volunteer and serve.
The deadline to apply for vacant positions on any of the boards is Friday, Aug. 11 and citizens can apply at www.KilleenTexas.gov/Boards.
Killeen residents have the opportunity to serve the community as members, each with unique duties, memberships, qualifications and terms. Some boards meet regularly while some meet intermittently. Residents will apply to volunteer their time, energy, expertise and insight to help keep our community a great place to live, thrive and flourish.
Board positions include the Arts Commission, Community Development Advisory Committee, Civil Service Commission, Killeen Housing Authority, Killeen Sister Cities, Planning and Zoning Commission, Police Academy Advisory Board, Senior Citizens Advisory Board, Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number Two Board, Youth Advisory Commission and Recreation Services Advisory; but please note positions for the following boards are most needed:
The Animal Advisory Committee, Capital Improvement Advisory Committee, Crime Solutions Committee, Heritage Preservation, as well as the Board of Adjustments and Appeals- Construction, Board of Adjustments and Appeals- Fire Prevention, Board of Adjustments and Appeals- Zoning.
The Killeen City Council will be making appointments to various city boards, commissions and committees and citizens are encouraged to apply for consideration.
Appointments are made each September for terms beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30. Applications not selected remain on file for consideration as vacancies occur.

The new web system also allows citizens to explore the number of vacancies, term limits and in-depth descriptions. Volunteers will work in an advisory capacity to City Council throughout the year.
