[ARCHIVED] 1-25-18 Mayor Segarra Attends Speech by President Trump

US Conference of Mayors hosting annual conference in Washington, DC.

Mayor Jose Segarra has joined hundreds of mayors in Washington, DC for the 86th Winter Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors.

President Donald J. Trump invited mayors to the East Wing of the White House yesterday for an address on local government investment, public safety, infrastructure and tax cuts.

“You bring safety, prosperity and hope to our citizens,” President Trump said addressing the group. “My administration will always support local government and listen to leaders who know their communities best, and you know your communities best.”

Mayor Segarra attended the address and says he was honored to represent Killeen at the White House and to join with a large group of mayors from different communities and political parties.

“I was encouraged to hear firsthand that the President is in support of some of our biggest issues,” said Segarra. “Killeen City Council has made infrastructure a top priority, and it is good to know the administration is focused on that priority as well.”

The three-day conference has a full schedule of sessions concerning the challenges faced by American cities. Experts will present a variety of subjects including economics, disaster preparedness, technology and social issues as well as hot topics such as gender equality, climate change and gun violence.

The United States Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities with a population of 30,000 or larger. Each city is represented by its chief elected official, the mayor.
