Event to take place Friday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m.
KILLEEN, Texas (July 29, 2024) – The City of Killeen will hold a celebration for the 20th anniversary of the Killeen Regional Airport (GRK) on Friday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the airport.
Speakers at the event will include former U.S. Congressman Chet Edwards, Former Killeen Mayor and State Representative Scott Cosper, current State Representative Brad Buckley, Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King, Fort Cavazos Garrison Commander Col. Lakicia Stokes, Killeen Assistant City Manager Laurie Wilson and Killeen Executive Director of Aviation Mike Wilson.
Groundbreaking for the airport took place March 21, 2003 and the airport opened on Aug. 2, 2004. It was named Killeen-Fort Hood Regional airport, as a joint use airport with then Fort Hood’s Robert Gray Army Airfield. It replaced Skylark Field, which was then called the Killen Municipal Airport.
After Fort Hood changed its name to Fort Cavazos, the Killeen City Council voted to change the name of the airport to the Killeen Regional Airport and the change was approved by the FAA on Nov. 20, 2023.
Since its opening, GRK has been a continuous regional destination for American/American Eagle Airlines. The airport has also been served by Delta, United, Continental and Allegiant Air, as well as charter flights, including the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s football team.
In addition to the 91,000+ square-foot terminal building, more than 1,500 parking spaces, and a runway that can host the largest aircrafts built today, the facility also has one corporate hangar, which began operations in 2021, and another hangar is due to be completed this year.
