The City asks citizens to help respect and preserve the memorial space so it is visibly pleasant
KILLEEN, Texas (Sept. 18, 2024) – Beginning in October, City of Killeen employees will begin a new program to keep the Killeen City Cemetery clean, removing items four times a year in an effort to secure, safeguard and preserve the dignity and aesthetics of the memorial grave site.
As a part of this initiative, Cemetery staff will pick up florals, flags and décor four months a year during the third full week indefinitely. Families will have 30 days to collect those items from staff before they are discarded. This practice is essential for ensuring longevity of this site.
Scheduled cleanup dates include:
- 3rd Week in October each year, beginning Oct. 21, 2024
- 3rd Week in January 2025 and beyond
- 3rd Week in April 2025 and beyond
- 3rd Week in July 2025 and beyond
Unauthorized items that are removed immediately include benches, chairs, ornaments, trinkets, glass, photos, food, drinks, solar lights, borders and objects that are not secured to the headstone base.
The City will notify the community before each maintenance date as a reminder. Signage is also clearly and prominently posted at the cemetery.
The City of Killeen is committed to maintaining a clean, respectable and serene resting place for loved ones. We ask for the community’s cooperation in keeping the cemetery orderly, beautiful and ensuring longevity. The City appreciates those helping to preserve the cemetery and keeping the appearance pleasant.
The City would also like to remind all citizens of the general cemetery rules, which are located on the website at www.KilleenTexas.gov/Cemetery. The phone number is (254) 200-7947.
