[ARCHIVED] Killeen’s drive-thru COVID-19 site ends, partners offering vaccines & tests for all approved ages

KISD covid

Bell County Public Health District and KISD will host sites

KILLEEN, Texas (Nov. 9, 2021) – The City of Killeen has suspended its free COVID-19 drive-thru for vaccines and tests amid a drop in demand and is now working with community partners to continue helping the public. The City will now assist the Bell County Health District, Killeen Independent School District and the Texas Military Department.

The Killeen Independent School District will host a COVID-19 vaccination site at the former Nolan Middle School (505 E. Jasper Drive, Killeen) for eight weeks, beginning this Thursday and Friday, Nov. 11 and 12. The Pfizer vaccine will be available at this site to anyone who is five years of age or older, through Dec. 28. No appointments are necessary but consent and immunization forms can be found on KISD’s website. Please see attached flier.

The Bell County Public Health District provides vaccines for all approved ages, and today they began offering the COVID-19 vaccine to youth ages 5-11 years old. That service will continue on Tuesdays during their immunization clinic at their Killeen office (309 N. 2nd Street). More information can be found at bellcountyhealth.org.

Last week, during the dates of Nov. 3 – Nov. 4, there were 86 vaccines administered and 112 tests given at Killeen’s drive-thru site. There were three positive cases.

The City has verified that area clinics and pharmacies have an ample supply and availability of vaccines and tests. City officials will be monitoring positivity and hospitalization rates and ready to re-implement more sites if necessary.

The Bell County Public Health District has lowered its COVID-19 threat level to Level 3, which is moderate, controlled transmission.

As a reminder, residents are asked to text their zip code to GETVAX (438829) for a list of nearby locations to receive a COVID-19 vaccine shot. Each person is also sent information about free childcare and getting a ride to a vaccination location. Residents may also call the connected hotline at 1-800-232-0233 for the same information.
