Killeen City Council has amended the parking ordinance to address large truck parking near residential areas. It is now illegal to park a truck with a capacity of one ton or greater within 500 feet of a residential property.
The amendment was made to assist in noise abatement and to improve motorist and pedestrian safety in residential areas.
Chapter 28, Article V. of the Killeen Code of Ordinances now reads, “it shall be unlawful for any person to park any vehicle having a capacity of more than (1) ton including, but not limited to, truck tractors, within five hundred (500) feet of a property zoned or used for residential purposes.”
It remains illegal to park a vehicle with a capacity of one ton or greater on private property in a residentially zoned area with the exception of travel trailers and light trucks for non-commercial use.
Police Chief Charles Kimble has approved the issuance of warnings for violations until June 18. Violations occurring after that date will be subject to citation and/or towing.
