KILLEEN, Texas (March. 29, 2022) – The Killeen City Council on Tuesday appointed Riakos Adams to fill the open District 2 City Council seat during tonight’s Special City Council meeting. The unexpired term for the District 2 seat runs through the May 2023 election.
Adams replaces former District 2 councilmember, Debbie Nash-King, who was sworn in as mayor on March 25. Nash-King replaced former mayor Jose Segarra, who reached his three-term limit as mayor and resigned from his role as mayor in order to seek election as a councilmember, as stipulated in the City Charter.
In anticipation of the District 2 opening, the Council took applications for the seat from March 4 through March 18, 2022.
In addition to Adams, applications were received from William Baumgartner, Monique Brand, and Kathryn Bradley. Adams was also sworn in during tonight’s council special meeting.
To be eligible for the seat, applicants must be bona fide residents of District 2, U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old and have not been convicted of a felony. They must also have continuously lived in Texas for the previous 12 months, in District 2 for the previous six months, and be a registered voter at time of appointment.
