City, consulting firm have open discussion with residents; City now updates five, major road projects
KILLEEN, Texas (May 5, 2022) – More than 50 residents attended an Open House on the Bunny Trail Reconstruction Project on May 4. The City of Killeen hosted the event at Haynes Elementary.
Planning and design firm Kinley-Horn has been hired to perform the project. They shared the main results of the firm’s roadway study and discussed the three main goals of the project: pavement reconstruction, pedestrian connectivity and increasing corridor safety.
In addition, they stated key areas to address are drainage ponding at Stan Schlueter Loop intersections and evaluating traffic control at Alamocitos Creek Drive.
The consultants presented three project proposals for review. After the presentation, consultants, City of Killeen Engineering staff and Councilman Michael Boyd were on hand to answer questions and address concerns from those in attendance. The Bunny Trail roadway runs through Boyd’s district #4.
Residents were also encouraged to fill out forms with any other comments they may have on the project.
The three proposals can be viewed at www.tinyurl.com/bunny-trail. The interactive website allows residents to view the proposals and submit notes and concerns.
The comment period will be open until May 18, after which the consultants and the City’s Engineering Department will select and present the preferred alternative to City Council, finalize the design, and begin construction by Summer of 2023.
Additionally, the City of Killeen wants to update the community on major road construction projects. The City has posted the attached flyer to their website, www.KilleenTexas.gov, as well as their social media platforms, to provide updates on Bunny Trail, Stagecoach Road, Gilmer Street, Watercrest Road and Willow Springs Road. We want to make sure the community is aware of the status of the ongoing projects.
