[ARCHIVED] Boil Water Notice fully lifted for all portions of Killeen

lifted

No area of the city is under a boil water notice, following one of 60 water samples needing a re-test

KILLEEN, Texas (May 11, 2022) – The City of Killeen has fully lifted a city-wide boil water notice (BWN) that was first announced by the Bell County Water Control and Improvement District on May 8. Most of the city was cleared from the BWN on May 10 at 9p.m., but the Middle Pressure Plane area of the city remained under the BWN, due to the need for additional testing.

WCID #1, which supplies the city’s water, enforced the original boil water notice under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) guidelines on May 8, following a major water pressure loss at one of its plants, as well as loss of electricity. Crews from WCID and ONCOR worked through the weekend to reinstate power to their facilities.  Once electrical power, full pressure, and disinfectant levels were restored, WCID #1 and all public water systems within their distribution system began collecting water quality samples for analysis. The City of Killeen is lifting the boil water notice for all properties within the Middle Pressure Plane (map attached).  Sample results have indicated that no contamination occurred.

The BWN affected all residents and businesses in cities WCID services, including Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton, Nolanville and the Fort Hood Military Reservation.

WCID #1 rescinded the boil water notice (BWN) on May 10, but the City of Killeen sent separate water samples to be tested for the WCID BWN, as was recommended to each city, and results showed additional water testing was required for the Middle Pressure Plane. Water quality samples were sent in for testing last night and the results returned as normal.

A BOIL WATER NOTICE was issued for City of Killeen residents and business beginning May 8 at 2:30p.m. Residents in all portions of the city have been lifted from the BWN. Residents should have boiled all water prior to consumption until water sampling results confirmed that no contamination occurred. Public notice will be issued through the City of Killeen website KilleenTexas.gov, by news release and the Boil Water Notice Hotline at (254) 501-6515 now that the notice is lifted for the Middle Pressure Plane and all areas of Killeen.

TCEQ Required Notice:

Due to conditions caused by water system repair, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the City of Killeen, PWS 0140006, to notify all City of Killeen customers to boil their water prior to consumption. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all affected customers should have followed these directions. A press release was issued and local news agencies were notified.

The City of Killeen public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of May 11, 2022 at 6:45p.m.

Please share this information with all others who may have been affected, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

For updates on this order, call 254-501-6515. If you have questions regarding this matter, you may contact the Water and Sewer Services official at 254-501-6319.
