[ARCHIVED] City of Killeen joins several agencies in Active Shooter training

Nearly two dozen City staff join 14 Central Texas agencies

KILLEEN, Texas (Aug. 4, 2022) – The City of Killeen’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM) has helped organize an Active Shooter Incident Management Advanced course training for 20 City employees and 17 agencies, including the Killeen Fire and Police Departments.

The training began on Aug. 3 and lasts through Aug. 5.

This training is a combination of lecture and hands-on, skill-based instruction. There are 3-D flight simulators, 911 dispatch consoles, and other skill-specific test areas set up in the training environment from which participants to learn.

The training has been in the works for our area since January of this year. The training will provide agencies with information and tools they can take back to their units to train others.

“The partnership of this training with more than ten area agencies is key to providing the best response to our communities,” Peter Perez, Killeen’s OHSEM Director said.

Some of the area agencies participating include the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments from Belton, Copperas Cove, Central Texas College, Harker Heights, Temple, Fort Hood Military Police and the Killeen Independent High School District
