A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Thursday morning and City facilities will open at 10a.m.
KILLEEN, Texas (Feb. 1, 2023) – City of Killeen facilities will open at 10a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, as a winter storm warning is in effect until 6a.m. tomorrow.
Freezing rain and sleet have led to hazardous travel conditions and the expectation of ice accumulation on elevated roadways, bridges, and ramps. Motorists are ask to continue to drive safely and only go out on the roads if they absolutely must travel.
Road Conditions:
- WS Young Bridge from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Atkinson Avenue is CLOSED
- Interstate 14 and State Highway 195 are drivable, however, with reduced speeds
- Overpasses, highway entrance ramps and bridges are being reported as icy and slick
- There are slick spots on non-elevated surface roads in our area
Warming Center:
A reminder, the City of Killeen has partnered with the Moss Rose Center to open a warming center. The center is open through 9 a.m. on Thursday. It will open again at 6 p.m. on Thursday and close Friday at 9 a.m. Here are is more information if needed:

Trash Collection:
A reminder that Tuesday trash collection routes have moved to Thursday; Thursday routes will move to Friday; and Friday routes will move to Saturday.
Aviation:
All departing flights at the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport are canceled, as the runway is closed due to ice. Please check AA.com for flight update information.
Residents are asked to continue to practice cold weather preparation tips to help prevent water line breaks and freezing pipes (insulate backflow devices/outside faucets, cover your outside pipes, run dripping faucet water in home at night, etc.).
