[ARCHIVED] 9-26-18 Killeen Receives National Financial Awards

Financial report and budget honored for transparency.

The City of Killeen has earned two national awards from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The awards are the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2017 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2017 annual budget.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by the government’s management. An impartial panel judged the City’s submission and determined that the CAFR demonstrated the spirit of full disclosure and was produced to clearly communicate the financial picture.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is achieved by organizational budgets that meet or exceed nationally recognized guidelines that determine how well the budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communication tool. The City’s budget met all 14 criteria standards in four categories. The Finance Department was also lauded with a certificate of recognition for producing the budget.

The City of Killeen has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award each year since 1990.

The Fiscal Year 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and previous reports, annual budgets, monthly financial statements and a financial transparency portal are available online at killeentexas.gov/finance.

GFOA was established in 1906 as a non-profit professional association. It now serves approximately 19,000 government representatives and finance professionals to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance policy and management.
