Volunteers needed to beautify and protect Lowes Boulevard Creek.
Keep Killeen Beautiful will host the annual Waterway Clean-Up Saturday at Lowes Boulevard Creek.
Each year, volunteers gather to remove trash and debris that has blown or washed into the creek from the busy commercial area. This litter can contaminate the waterway and be washed downstream harming the water supply. Removing pollutants like plastic bags, food bags and containers and cigarette butts from the banks of the creek helps protect Lowes Boulevard Creek and the watercourses downstream.
Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Walmart at 1400 Lowes Boulevard. A group photo will be taken and supplies will be distributed before participants spread out along the creek.
Registration for the Waterway Clean-Up is not required but is encouraged. Individuals and groups can register in advance by calling 501-7878.
