Fiber Optic Work Being Done Throughout the City of Killeen
Utility companies are constructing an open-access fiber optic network in the City of Killeen to provide high-speed internet capabilities to the community. The utility work being done by the private companies includes the installation of conduit, cable, and vault boxes within public rights-of-way and utility easements across the City of Killeen. This work began in the city approximately three years ago and is anticipated to be completed within the next five to six years. It is important to note that this work is being conducted by various franchise utility providers in accordance with state law. This work is not being designed or constructed by the City of Killeen. These Contractors will be using boring equipment to install the conduits and cables to minimize the impact on the citizens of Killeen and excavating to install vault boxes. Citizens should receive a notice from the Contractor when work is to be conducted in existing easements. These easements may be along the front yards, along the sidewalks, or in the rear of the property along the fence line. Any areas disturbed by the Contractor must be restored to their original condition or better, to the satisfaction of the property owner. At no time will the Contractors need to enter your home or business. The individual Contractors are required to obtain a permit from the City of Killeen for work in public rights-of-way and existing utility easements that are within the boundaries of the private property.
