Citizen's Police Academy

  • The Killeen Citizen's Police Academy is a 48 hour block of instruction designed to give the public a working knowledge of the police department. The academy was created in order to provide information to the citizens so that they may make informed judgments about police activities. This will increase awareness of the Killeen Police Department and help to dispel misconceptions that the community may have about the department.

  • The Killeen Police Department offers two 12 week sessions each year, a spring session and a fall session. Classes are held once a week on Monday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. The class also participates in a Range Day which is held on one Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during each session.

    Students also have a 4-hour ride-along with a uniformed police officer.

  • The academy is open to anyone age 18 and over who lives in or is employed within the city limits of Killeen. Applicants must submit and undergo a criminal history check.

  • Students completing the 12 week instructional course may elect to join the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association.
