Are you ready to answer the call and make a real difference in your community? The Killeen Fire Department offers its very own Fire Academy for individuals eager to start a career in the fire service!
Our academy follows the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Firefighter Course, giving you the skills and knowledge you need to succeed. Graduates will be eligible to take the Texas Commission on Fire Protection certification exam and meet—or exceed—the qualifications for employment with many fire departments.

Application Process
Applications (PDF) are available at the Academy from 0800 to 1600 hours. A physical with a 10-panel drug screen and a background check through IdentoGO are required. A $400 deposit is required to reserve a seat.
Acceptance into the Killeen Fire Academy does not signify employment with the City of Killeen Fire Department. You can view current job openings with the City of Killeen by visiting their official Job Opportunities page: Killeen, Texas.
The Killeen Fire Department is registered with the Veterans Administration, so you can use your G.I. Bill to attend. Additional fees not covered by the G.I. Bill may apply.
Dorms are available on a limited basis (first come, first served). Staying in a dorm is optional. You must notify the Academy Principal Secretary if you plan to stay.
